ICFJ offers six-week online course for Pakistani journalists on “Freedom of Expression in the Digital Age”

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) invites Pakistani journalists with three to 10 years of professional journalism experience to apply for a six-week online course, “Freedom of Expression in the Digital Age,” which will be held from April 8 to May 20, 2015. The deadline to apply has been extended to April 5, 2015.

During the six-week course, participants will learn to produce multimedia content, write and blog for the web, and effectively and ethically manage online communities that attract constructive, responsible dialogue with their audiences. They will examine how social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are being used in news coverage and how journalists can best make use of the wide array of citizen-produced content in ways that promote intercultural understanding.

The course will be offered in English and Urdu. Funding for the course is provided by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The course will be led by:

Hoda Osman, a New York-based reporter and journalism trainer who has worked for APTN, ABC News, CBS News, and France24.

Sadaf Khan, program manager for digital rights and freedom of expression at Pakistan-based Bytes for All who has worked for Intermedia Pakistan, Geo News, and Dunya TV.
