Ramos Tells Journalists: Don’t Apologize for Doing Your Job

Univision anchor Jorge Ramos, who famously faced down presidential candidate Donald Trump over immigration, urged journalists not to back down when it comes to confronting those in power.

Ramos, widely considered the most influential Hispanic broadcaster in America, said he is a journalist rather than an activist as some have suggested. But he also said that journalists should take a stand on key issues such as human rights, discrimination and corruption.

ICFJ Calls for Release of Detained Investigative Journalist in Egypt

The International Center for Journalists condemns the arrest of Hossam Bahgat, an investigative journalist detained Sunday by Egyptian military intelligence for allegedly publishing false news that damages national interests. Bahgat, 36, a reporter for the independent news site Mada Masr, has a reputation for serving as a government watchdog.

Why Organizers Rely on HackDash to Show Hackathons Have Worth

On July 12, 2012, ICFJ Knight Fellow Mariano Blejman sent out a simple plea on Twitter: "We're looking for a platform to organize the Media Party hackathon," Blejman tweeted in Spanish. "Are there any I’m missing?"

A few people tweeted suggestions, but nothing ended up suiting Blejman's needs for his upcoming event in Buenos Aires.

Former Knight Fellow Selected as Distinguished Professor at CUNY

Miguel Paz, a digital media strategist and former Knight Fellow with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), has been selected by CUNY Graduate School of Journalism as a distinguished lecturer in data journalism and multimedia storytelling.

"He is a leader in using innovative approaches to data journalism to build more vibrant, transparent communities," said Sarah Bartlett, dean of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
