Critical-Issues Reporting

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has named reporters from India, Kenya and Nigeria as winners of the 2016 Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest. Their stories shed light on the earliest years of life, especially the first 1,000 days. That is the critical period when children need proper nourishment, responsive care, learning opportunities and protection from disease, violence and stress.

The Open the Knowledge Journalism Awards, presented by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that runs Wikipedia, celebrates the contributions of journalists in Africa who prioritize accuracy, depth and inclusion in their reporting.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, aims to foster a regional network of citizen journalists who can advance dialogue on transparency, accountability and good governance within and across their borders.

The program starts

Grants of up to $3,000 each are available to journalists providing reliable coverage on these critical issues.  We encourage independent media in any of the eligible regions and exiled Russian and Ukrainian journalists to apply.

U.S. journalists can win a reporting fellowship to attend the International Family Planning Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on November 12-15. The journalists will spend six days meeting leading family planning experts from around the world, attending formal sessions of the conference and participating in site visits to clinics and schools to learn about family planning education, tools and services and hear from women themselves about what they want and need.
