The Johnson & Johnson Global Health Reporting Contest, one of ICFJ’s flagship programs, increases the quality and quantity of health coverage on four continents by offering journalists specialized training and access to leading experts.

The U.S.-Pakistan Professional Partnership in Journalism program builds lasting connections between Pakistani journalists and their U.S. counterparts, with the goal of raising understanding in media organizations and among their audiences about each other’s countries.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), along with Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), have established the Center for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ) in Karachi, Pakistan. The CEJ serves as a hub for the professional development, training and networking of Pakistani journalists and media professionals from all parts of the country. It also welcomes journalists from around the world to participate in its programs.

In the spring of 2016 the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) implemented a program for South and Central Asia journalists that aimed to build bridges between South and Central Asia and U.S. media outlets.

Vernacular journalists and bloggers often are at a disadvantage as news outlets around the world increasingly rely on social media and digital tools to engage audiences. They may lack the language and skills needed to meet the demands of an online newsroom. <p/> To help address this technology and information gap, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is creating a cutting-edge curriculum that will help media professionals and journalism educators learn to use social media to connect with audiences in three South Indian states.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), with the support from the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad, India, hosted the “Workshop for Bloggers on Global Issues and Challenges,” in January 2015. The program was offered to support media professionals and bloggers in the dynamic locale of Hyderabad to illustrate the impact of international issues on the daily lives of their local readership and India’s broader development objectives. ICFJ’s partner in Hyderabad was the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI).

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has partnered with the University of the Punjab in Lahore on a new hands-on program designed for Pakistani media leaders.

Launched in early 2015, the series of three-day workshops target management issues. The sessions tackle decision-making, investigative journalism, journalists’ safety, media law and digital news production. The first three workshops drew 60 Pakistani media executives from news outlets such as AAJ, ARY, Dawn, Dunya, Express and GEO. Two U.S.

Journalists in Sub-Saharan Africa, Pakistan and the Gulf States have a chance to win a trip to the United States or cash prizes as part of three regional competitions to recognize the best media coverage of vaccines and immunizations.

Stories published or broadcast in Sub-Saharan Africa, Pakistan and the Gulf States between March 15 and May 15, 2013, which includes World Immunization Week (April 24-30), will qualify for the regional contests.

Journalists from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka were invited to apply to a training program aiming to connect journalists in the region on joint reporting projects that explored cross-border issues of importance, while also training them in responsible practices in the digital age. The program, ran by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) and sponsored by the U.S. State Department, had two main components.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has named reporters from India, Kenya and Nigeria as winners of the 2016 Early Childhood Development Reporting Contest. Their stories shed light on the earliest years of life, especially the first 1,000 days. That is the critical period when children need proper nourishment, responsive care, learning opportunities and protection from disease, violence and stress.
