Early Childhood Development Reporting Trip 1: Uganda

In July, ICFJ's first group of Early Childhood Development Reporting Fellows met in Uganda for a seven-day reporting trip. The fellows participated in meetings with government ministries, community and religious leaders, and international organizations in Kampala that are working to implement ECD policies. They also met with local journalists who cover child health and development issues and exchanged tips for covering these topics. The fellows and their two mentors traveled to Kabale to visit a model integrated ECD center run by UNICEF, visit schools, and observe how the community is addressing the issue of malnutrition alongside ECD. They also spent time exploring independent stories.
